After School Clubs
At St. Michael's we think it is very important for children to experience a range of activities outside of the classroom. We offer a wide variety of after school clubs. Can you find a club that you would like to join? We are always on the look-out for more help, so if you would like to help out with an existing club, or begin a new club, please see Mrs Macormack at the school office.
Eco Club:
The children have transformed a piece of land at the side of the school into a colourful garden and a habitat for wildlife. Recently, the school has gained the bronze award from Eco-Schools. At the moment we are developing a pond area and a vegetable patch. We are planting some summer flowering plants as well as looking after the plants we grew last year. Come and visit the eco garden and enjoy the hard work that the children have put in. Near to our Eco Garden is our Memorial Garden, where we have planted trees in memory of former pupils of St. Michael's who have died while they were young, in tragic circumstances.
Hockey:
Year 4, 5 and 6 have been learning to play hockey wih some coaches. Most children only get the chance to try out this sport at secondary school so we are very lucky to have this available to the children of St. Michael's. Everyone really enjoys this after school club!
Running:
Mr Foster and Mrs Soulsby take children from Key Stage 2 running at Rainton Meadows at lunch time. We have some excellent runners at St. Michael's and everybody trains really hard to get into the school running team. They have competed in lots of races this year and even won some trophies! Keep an eye out in our news pages to see how the teams do in local races.
Football:
Children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can join our Football Club and try to win a place on the Football Team. With Mr Foster in charge helped by, Brian and Ian, we could teach Roy Keane a thing or two! The boys and girls learn all of the basic skills needed for football and the best players are chosen for the team. Our football team is doing really well this term, winning the local league.

Gymnastics:
Year One, Year Two and Year Three have gymnastics lessons with a specialist coach. The coach is helped by some skilled gymnasts from Year Six. The children have learned some amazing skills and really enjoy this club.
