Africa Week

Welcome to Africa Week at St. Michael's School.  We have really enjoyed the African experiences this week and hope you like the photos.
These gumboot dancers come from Zimbabwe.  They performed some dances that were traditionally used by miners in Africa.  They also sang some traditional mining songs as they danced.
Each class had a chance to learn some gumboot dancing.  Some children even wore their wellies!
It was really difficult to learn!
Sister Dominca has been helping out in school all week.  She lived in Kenya for many years and eveyone has enjoyed learning African songs with her, especially Jambo!
We had a chance to taste some African food.  It was delicious!
In class, everyone had a singing lesson.  We prepared some African songs to sing for our families.
We also had a drumming lesson!
At the end of the day some parents watched us perform.  Years five and six played the drums really well and everyone else sang their new African songs.  It was great!
